Q1: The Original Prompt
The year began with a creative project. The project required an output. The output would be generated with assistance. An initial prompt was written.
The initial prompt worked. The output was acceptable. The output was not quite right. The prompt was revised.
Q1 ended with version 3 of the prompt. The output had not been published.
Q2: Methodology Refinement
Version 4 through 7 were produced between April and June. Each version addressed a specific shortcoming in the previous version's output. The shortcomings were real. The revisions were justified.
The output continued to improve in small measurable ways.
Any task adjacent to making may replace making while prompt polishing loop still feels productive.
By June, the prompt was significantly more sophisticated than the original. The output was demonstrably better. The output remained unpublished.
Q3: Systematization
Version 8 introduced a structured format. Version 9 added context about the intended audience. Version 10 added constraints that the previous versions had violated. Version 11 was a cleanup of version 10, which had become long.
The prompt now contained more thought than the first four drafts of the project itself.

Q4: Current State
Version 14 exists. It is well constructed. The output it produces is, by any reasonable standard, good. The prompt has a section for tone, a section for structure, a section for what to avoid, and a section for examples of successful outputs from previous versions.
People refine instructions for an automated creative tool until improving the prompt becomes easier than judging the output. Improving the prompt no longer requires accepting an imperfect result. Judging the output requires deciding that it is finished.
The prompt polishing loop will continue into the new year.

The project has excellent infrastructure. The project has not been completed. The prompt is more polished than the thing it was meant to produce.
