Background Object Audit Has Entered Review
The video calls have been reviewed. The bookshelf behind the subject contains seventeen books visible in frame. Four of them are facing spine-out.

SCOPE
This audit covers objects visible in the subject's video call background over the period January through September 2022. The audit was initiated after the subject noticed, during a recording of a recent call, that the framing revealed three objects the subject had not consciously considered in the context of professional visibility.
The objects are: a foam roller that is in frame approximately 40% of the time depending on camera angle, a book titled "Atomic Habits" oriented so the title is clearly legible, and a succulent that is in a state of decline that the word "dying" would describe more accurately than "dry."
BACKGROUND
Each object behind the subject was placed by the subject, and each one is now being read by people who are trying to listen to something else. This is a structural consequence of the video call format, which provides a continuous visual feed of the speaker's environment even during periods when the speaker is not speaking or is sharing a screen.
The objects were not selected for the background. They arrived there through ordinary habitation and now carry an unintended communicative function.
FINDINGS BY CATEGORY
Fitness Equipment: The foam roller communicates physical wellness aspiration. It is in the background because the subject uses it occasionally and has not found a permanent off-frame location for it. The communicative content and the operational content are not aligned.
Self-Improvement Literature: The "Atomic Habits" book was read in 2019. It is on the shelf because shelves are where books go. Its legibility in frame was not a considered decision. The book's title is widely recognized. This creates a context the subject did not intend to create.
Plant Life: The succulent's current condition is visible at typical video call resolution. This information is available to all participants and has been available since approximately July.
OUTSTANDING ITEMS
Phase 2 of this audit will assess whether corrective action is warranted, and if so, what form that action should take. Options under consideration include: object relocation, camera angle adjustment, use of a virtual background, and acceptance of the current configuration as a reasonable representation of an environment where a person lives and works.
Phase 2 has been in review since August 14.
