Field Notice on Certificate Qr Check

The certificate has a QR code. The QR code has been scanned. The result confirmed what the certificate already said. The QR code will be scanned again before the next occasion requires it.

Field Notice on Certificate QR Check

He downloads the certificate on a Tuesday.

He reads the certificate. His name is correct. The date is correct. The vaccine name is correct. The certificate number is a string of characters he does not recognize but which appears to be in the right format. He reads the certificate three times.

Then he scans the QR code.

The QR code leads to a government portal that displays the same name, the same date, the same vaccine. It is the same information, verified by a different surface. He screenshots the portal. He now has the certificate and a screenshot of what the certificate says.

His wife asks from the next room whether it came through.

He says yes. It is correct. He does not mention the QR code. The QR code scan was not something he planned or decided. It was something that happened.

He sends the certificate to the family group. His mother replies with a thumbs up within thirty seconds. His mother's response speed suggests she was waiting for the certificate without knowing she was waiting for it.

He checks that the screenshot is in his photo roll. It is. He creates a folder called CERTIFICATES. He moves the screenshot into the folder. He moves the original certificate PDF into the folder from his downloads.

A cousin asks, in a separate conversation, which portal it comes from.

He explains the portal. He explains the process. He explains that the QR code confirms the information on the face of the certificate, which is useful because it is the same information confirmed by a different mechanism, which is worth having. His cousin says thanks. His cousin does not ask why he scanned the QR code when the face of the certificate was legible and correct.

His cousin is right not to ask. There is no answer that is different from: he needed to check it twice.

The certificate is correct. He will check it again before next week, the first time the certificate is required for entry somewhere. He will arrive at the venue, open the folder, open the certificate, and then scan the QR code. The portal will open. His name will be there.

He knows this. He will check it anyway.
