WITNESS: Sometimes I wake up when the phone lands. Then I have to check whether anything cracked. Then I put it on the nightstand. Then I try to fall asleep again, which takes longer than it would have if I had simply placed the phone on the nightstand before any of this.
CHAIR: A small workaround has been created.
WITNESS: I also put a soft case on it. For the falls.
CHAIR: The workaround produces a second check designed to confirm the first one worked, at which point the subject is no longer falling asleep.
WITNESS: I wouldn't characterize it that way.
CHAIR: The committee would. The ritual is intended to make sleep easier, yet it gives wakefulness one more detail to manage. We find this consistent with the pattern.
WITNESS: The drop does feel like a natural stopping point.

WITNESS: The case was not expensive.
