Interim Order on Password Text Archaeology
Any repeat of password text archaeology must be treated as procedure until the original uncertainty has clearly ended.

The evening plan is to watch something. The something has been selected. It is on a streaming service that requires a password. The password is in a message thread. The thread is the family group. The family group contains 847 messages and the password was sent in October of a year that is now unclear.
The Password Exists
It is in this thread somewhere. This is confirmed. Someone sent it. It was received and used. The service was accessed. The password continued to work after that initial use. The password has been used approximately forty times since then, from this device, using a saved session that did not require the password to be typed again.
The session has expired. The password is required.

The Archaeology
Someone repeats password text archaeology to avoid one uncertain moment. The uncertain moment is asking a parent to resend the password, which would require the parent to also find the original password, which they set up several years ago on a device that has since been replaced, in a sequence of events that produced the message in the family group thread that is currently being searched.
A second person copies the behavior because the repetition looks like experience. A sibling is also searching the same thread, from a different device, applying a different search term, and reporting results in a sub-thread that has now been initiated to coordinate the search.

The Supporting Infrastructure
The group eventually treats the copied behavior as the safest available standard. Before the next time the session expires, a message is sent to the family group requesting that the password be sent again and also be saved somewhere that can be found. The message receives three acknowledgments. No one sends the password. Everyone expects someone else to initiate the saving.
The Governing Rule
Routine is considered proof even when nobody remembers the original reason. The original reason for password text archaeology was the text. The text is still there. Finding it is the problem. Finding it is also not guaranteed, which is what makes the archaeology time-limited and increasingly tense as the evening progresses.

Current Status
The password was located. It was in a message from March. It was forwarded to the sub-thread that had been created to coordinate the search. The film started forty-one minutes after the original plan. The film was fine.
The password has not been saved anywhere that can be found.
