Classification: Micro-deliberation with formalized consequences
Post reaction choice has been classified as a micro-deliberation because the decision takes longer than the content justifies and shorter than the deliberator believes. The available reactions are six. The distinction between them is presented as meaningful. The distinction is, in practice, the difference between publicly stating you liked something and publicly stating you found it insightful, which is the same as liking something while indicating that you process things at a different register.
Observation
Someone chooses between like, celebrate, and support as though the reaction icon carries a formal position. The post is an announcement of a promotion. The promotion icon is Celebrate. Celebrate is selected. The selection took four seconds. The selection was reviewed before confirmation. The post aims to sound personal, but the most personal moments often arrive in the most familiar script.
Consequence One
Post reaction choice begins as a private precaution with no audience. The first time someone deliberated between Like and Insightful, no one was watching. The deliberation was internal. It produced an Insightful, which was noted and did not change the poster's behavior.
Consequence Two
It becomes visible enough that other people adjust their timing or expectations around it. A colleague mentions that they noticed the Insightful. Noticeability is now a factor. The reaction is not just a response to the post. It is a legible signal about how the reactor reads.
Consequence Three
The precaution turns into a social rule whose absence is noticed faster than its presence. Private anxiety becomes procedure when more than one person starts coordinating around it. A colleague who Liked a promotion announcement when Celebrate was available has selected the wrong reaction. No one has said this. Everyone has noted it.
Absurd Rule in Force
Once established, post reaction choice must be performed for every post in the professional category. Selecting Like for a post that qualifies for Celebrate indicates either carelessness or a deliberate signal. Both interpretations require management.
Contradiction
The six-reaction system was introduced to add nuance to a binary. The nuance introduced a protocol for managing the appearance of nuance. The protocol is more complex than the binary it replaced.
