Minutes Concerning Presentation Backup Slide
Minutes from the proceeding at which the production of slides no one expects to show was formally discussed.
Meeting: Recurring preparation review Attendees: The presenter, the slides, the backup slides Status of backup slides: Present. Will not be shown.
Agenda Item 1: Rationale for backup slide production
The presenter prepared slides for a fifteen-minute presentation. The slides cover the required material. The presenter then prepared four additional slides covering questions that might be asked, counterarguments that might be raised, and data that was removed from the main deck for length.
The backup slides will not be shown. Being overprepared feels safer than being brief. This rationale was accepted without objection.
Agenda Item 2: History and precedent
Someone made one minor adjustment: a single backup slide covering a data point removed for time. The adjustment became part of the expected preparation sequence and added time to every subsequent presentation preparation. The time added is not measured.
Correcting presentation backup slide requires more authority than repeating it. The authority required would be a room in which no one asked a question that required backup slides, combined with enough presentations that the pattern could be observed. This has not occurred.
Agenda Item 3: Costs
The work could proceed without the performance. The performance is what makes the work look properly coordinated. The performance takes approximately forty-five minutes. The presentation takes fifteen minutes. The backup slides are never shown.
Eventually removing the adjustment requires a discussion longer than the behavior ever saved. No one has proposed removing it.
Actions
None. The backup slides will be prepared for the next presentation.
Presentation backup slide must be repeated whenever the uncertainty it once reduced appears again. The uncertainty it once reduced: a question about data that was cut. The uncertainty persists. The backup slides will be ready.
Meeting adjourned.
