Notice Concerning Declining Room Check
A classification notice for the person who opens a live audio app less often but still checks whether the people they followed are talking somewhere.
Classification Notice: Declining Room Check Issued by the Bureau of Social Audio Behavior, December 2021
I. Subject
A person who joined a live audio application during a period of high novelty now opens the application with reduced frequency. However, they continue to check whether the people they follow are in an active room. This behavior is declining room check.
II. Operational Description
The person does not enter rooms. They do not join speaker queues. Passive listening occurs occasionally. The check for active rooms occurs more often than the listening, which occurs more often than the speaking, which has not occurred in some weeks.
A one-time check is added before deciding not to engage. The check gains a preferred hour, a preferred method of dismissal if a room is found empty, and a reliable exception for rooms with more than forty listeners in which the person considered joining before closing the app.
III. Consequence Chain
A temporary precaution for declining room check becomes the default because it worked once: the check confirmed that the room was active, the decision not to enter felt more considered than it would have without the check, and this felt better than either entering the room or not checking.
Other people do not know declining room check is happening. The app does not register it. It produces no social output. The person performing it is its only audience.
Skipping declining room check now looks careless even when the original risk or inconvenience is gone. It looks careless to the person performing it.
IV. Governing Rule
Any behavior that prevents embarrassment once must survive until formally challenged. No formal challenge has been filed. Declining room check continues to operate under provisional authority.
V. Status
Active. The app will be opened this evening. No rooms will be entered. The check will be completed.
