Notice Concerning Discount Code Hunt
Once discount code hunt prevents one awkward moment, it must remain in force for the rest of the routine.

This notice is issued in response to a pattern that has been observed across sufficient instances to warrant formal correspondence. The pattern is the discount code hunt, and this office wishes to express measured but genuine alarm at its current scope of deployment.
The hunt begins at the checkout page. The checkout page includes a field labeled, typically, "Enter promo code" or "Have a code?" or some similar invitation. The invitation implies a code exists and that the buyer should know about it. The buyer does not know about it. The hunt begins.
Phase One: The Search
A new browser tab is opened. The search query is the retailer's name followed by the words "coupon code" or "discount code" and the current month and year. The current month and year are included because codes expire, and an expired code produces an error that is experienced as a personal failure.
The search returns between four and eleven results. The results are websites that aggregate discount codes. The codes on these websites are presented with indicators such as "verified" and "active" and "100% working," which are phrases that exist because the codes are frequently not verified, active, or working.
Phase Two: The Testing
Codes are tested in order of their reported success rate. The first code produces an error. The second code produces the same error, which is unexpected because the second code was listed as more recently verified than the first.
Three to seven codes are tested. One of the following outcomes occurs: a code works and reduces the total by a modest amount; no code works and the hunt ends; a code works but is for a category of items not present in the cart; the hunt extends past the point where the checkout page has timed out and the cart must be rebuilt.
Phase Three: The Accounting
The code was found. It had expired. The hunt had taken longer than the discount was worth.
This outcome is not alarming in isolation. It is alarming in recurrence. This office notes that the hunt is initiated on most checkout occasions regardless of order size, meaning that a hunt for a ten-percent discount on a two-hundred-rupee order receives the same procedural weight as a hunt on a larger order, which is the detail that has prompted this correspondence.
