Background
The behavior under observation is the act of checking the total episode count of a series before beginning to watch it. The check is performed on a platform that displays this information in the series overview. The check takes two to four seconds.
It has been consistently performed for the duration of the observation period, which is approximately sixteen months.
Progress on Stated Purpose
The stated purpose of episode count inspection, insofar as a purpose can be inferred from the behavior, is to assess the time commitment required before beginning a series. The assessment is used to determine whether to start.

A series with forty-two episodes and a series with six episodes are both started. The check precedes both decisions. The check has not been observed to produce a refusal based on episode count.
Findings to Date
First finding: series with high episode counts are not avoided. Several series with over thirty episodes have been started during the observation period. Four are currently in progress simultaneously.
Second finding: series with low episode counts are not prioritized. A six-episode series currently ranks fourth in the informal watch queue, behind a twenty-episode series and two ongoing productions.
Third finding: the episode count is consulted as a proxy for time commitment, and the time commitment is accepted regardless of the number found. The proxy functions correctly as a retrieval mechanism but incorrectly as a decision input, since the decision it is supposed to inform does not vary with the output.
The Governing Indifference
The check continues because episode count inspection precedes series selection as a procedural step, and procedural steps that have been performed consistently do not require a justification for each instance. The justification was supplied once, at the point when the behavior was established. It no longer needs to be re-supplied before each check.

No series has been declined based on episode count in the observation period. The check has been performed before every series that was subsequently started and before several series that were not.
