Notice Concerning Idea Capture Abundance

Evidence:

Notes application contains 47 voice memos, 23 typed fragments, and 6 photographs of whiteboard diagrams. The oldest unexecuted note is dated eleven weeks prior. The most recently captured idea is from this morning. It arrived during a shower, was recorded immediately upon exiting, and was described as very promising.

Mechanism:

Capturing an idea creates the sensation of progress because the idea now exists somewhere outside the mind. It has been secured. It will not be lost. The task of capturing it is complete.

Executing an idea creates exposure to judgment, failure, and the possibility of discovering that the idea was not as strong as it appeared in the capturing moment. Execution is therefore deferred until conditions improve.

Findings:

The conditions under which execution would feel safe have not materialized in eleven weeks. New ideas continue to arrive and be captured. Each new idea briefly represents a possible alternative to executing the older idea. Eventually the older idea is buried under newer ideas and becomes available as a historical artifact rather than an active obligation.

Governing Rule: Under the applicable standard, a task may be delayed if the delay can be renamed planning, setup, research, or reset. Recording an idea counts as planning. An idea capture abundance therefore creates an inventory of legitimate deferrals.

Conclusion: The subject is an extremely productive capturer. The subject is not an extremely productive executor. Both of these facts are accurate and neither one cancels the other.
