Notice Regarding Morning Message Delay
Any morning message delay stated as a boundary must be defended even after maintaining it becomes inconvenient.
December 2022. Location: personal device, message drafting interface. Subject: outgoing message withheld until work hours.
07:51 Subject drafts a work message. The message addresses a pending item. The message is complete. The subject does not send it.
07:52 The subject rereads the draft. The draft requires no revision.
07:53 The subject sets the phone down.
Someone waits until work hours to send a drafted message and spends the morning checking the draft. This is the first note.
The decision to wait is not documented anywhere as a policy. It emerged from the 2022 language of protecting your peace, which turned personal limits into something people also performed publicly. Not sending work messages before nine was a limit. The limit was not announced. It functioned as a public position anyway.
The first case of morning message delay changes one small decision without being discussed. The draft was complete at 07:51. It was sent at 09:03. The twelve-minute discrepancy between sending time and the nominal start of work hours was not explained. Nothing required an explanation.
09:03 Message sent.
09:04 Subject checks whether the message has been read.
After repetition, other people begin adjusting their behavior around morning message delay. The recipient had learned that messages from the subject arrive after nine. They had adjusted their morning timeline accordingly, without being asked to. The adjustment was mutual without being negotiated.
The boundary is meant to reduce obligation, yet maintaining the boundary becomes a new obligation. The draft was checked three times between 07:53 and 09:03. Checking the draft was the obligation that the delay generated. A limit counts as successful only if the person enforcing it can prove they still care about everyone affected. The morning checks were the proof.
Eventually morning message delay acquires an unwritten enforcement system that everyone denies creating. The subject receives a work message at 07:40. They do not respond until 09:00. This is not noted as unusual by either party.
These notes are a record, not a recommendation. No further action is taken.
