Operating Guide for AI Summary Verification

Purpose of This Guide

This guide documents the operating procedure for AI summary verification as it exists in practice, not as any policy prescribes it. No policy prescribes it. The procedure has developed on its own and is now stable.

Step One: Request the Summary

Open the AI tool. Paste the source document. Request a summary. The summary arrives in seconds. It is accurate enough to use and brief enough to forward. This is the efficiency the tool was built to provide.

Step Two: Verify the Summary

Open the source document. Read it line by line. Check each claim in the summary against its source material. Note any discrepancies. Correct them or decide they are within acceptable range.

This step takes longer than the original reading would have taken.

Any case of AI summary verification used for real work must remain private until the output survives a manual check. The check is now standard. It predates any guidance requiring it.

Step Three: Use the Output

Forward the summary with corrections applied. Do not mention the AI tool. The help is useful enough to use and awkward enough to disguise. Neither condition affects the quality of the summary. Both conditions affect whether it is disclosed.

Operational Status

Assisted work becomes routine while disclosure stays exceptional and nobody addresses the gap. AI summary verification adds one private manual check. That check has become part of the normal workflow. The workflow now includes a step that validates the efficiency that justified the workflow.

This is the stable operating state. The guide does not recommend changes because the procedure has settled into a form that functions, at the cost of an extra layer of labor that nobody counts.
