Preliminary Findings on Blanket Edge Recovery

The subject recovers a lost blanket edge at night and returns to sleep with no memory of the operation.

Subject: Blanket edge recovery, nocturnal
Background: Behavioral pattern observed across multiple sleep cycles
Investigative Period: Ongoing; no defined end date
Status: Preliminary; findings subject to revision

Subject Description

The subject wakes briefly in the night. The blanket has shifted. A portion of the subject is uncovered. The subject reaches for the edge and draws it back. The subject returns to sleep without fully remembering the operation in the morning.

This takes between four and twenty seconds. The subject is not aware of the duration.

Background

Blanket edge recovery was not decided upon. It emerged from the gap between available blanket coverage and required body temperature. It solves a tiny bedtime discomfort while making the person more attentive to being awake, which is the opposite of what the operation is intended to accomplish.

The first accommodation for blanket edge recovery removed a little uncertainty and looked harmless. This characterization remains accurate. The accommodation became teachable: people sharing a sleep environment learn it without anyone calling it a rule. Children adapt to it. Guests adapt to it. It does not require instruction.

Findings

  1. Blanket edge recovery is considered stable once removing it would require an explicit conversation, which has not occurred.

  2. Later nocturnal interventions are now assessed against blanket edge recovery as a reference case. A recurring noise, a temperature adjustment, a pillow relocation: each is tolerated to approximately the same degree. The blanket established the tolerance band.

  3. Ignoring blanket edge recovery appears reckless even though the rule was invented from habit and has no formal authority.

Open Questions

Whether blanket edge recovery is experienced as a disruption or as continuous sleep management remains unresolved. The subject reports the latter. The observation record does not confirm this.

Status

Preliminary. Investigation continues.
