The account holder noticed a profile that was not familiar. The profile had a name. The name did not correspond to any member of the household. The watch history of the profile contained several films the account holder did not watch and several series watched to completion.

The account holder spent approximately forty seconds reviewing the watch history before identifying the party responsible. The identification was straightforward. The watch history contained a documentary series the account holder had recommended to a specific person in a specific conversation.
The profile was not given. It was taken, which is different, and also the same.
Item 3: The Reluctant Assessment
The service allows five profiles. The household uses four. The fifth profile was available. A person in the account holder's network became aware of the available profile and used it.
This is technically unauthorized. It is also not causing harm to the account holder, who was not using the fifth profile, was not charged additional money, and has in fact experienced no change to their service.
Item 4: The Conversation Not Being Had
The account holder has chosen not to raise the matter with the person responsible. The reasons for this are several. The person responsible is known to the account holder. The cost of the confrontation exceeds the cost of the profile.
The fifth profile exists. Someone is using it. The account holder knows who it is and has decided this is not the conversation they want to have today. Or tomorrow.

The platform recently announced measures to address account sharing. These measures include verification steps, additional fees for non-household members, and geographic usage checks.
The platform's concern is not the account holder's fifth profile specifically. It is the aggregate pattern across millions of accounts. The aggregate pattern represents revenue the platform believes it is not collecting.
Item 6: The Structural Contradiction
The platform designed an account with five profiles, knowing that households typically have fewer than five members, at a price point competitive with alternatives that have fewer profiles. The five-profile design created the fifth-profile problem.
The platform is now solving the problem it designed.
