THIS NOTICE CLASSIFIES the behavior of working on the easiest section of a project before the difficult section has been addressed.
SECTION I: WHAT IS BEING CLASSIFIED
Easy section first is the practice of returning repeatedly to already-acceptable portions of a project in order to improve them further, while a structurally incomplete section remains unaddressed.
The section being improved does not need improvement. The section not being addressed is the reason the project is unfinished.
SECTION II: GOVERNING RULE
Under the governing rule, a task may be delayed if the delay can be renamed planning, setup, research, or reset. Easy section first is classified under this provision as: refinement. Refinement is a recognized work category. The work is real. The sequence is managed.
The behavior reduces discomfort immediately and increases the amount of future work at the same time.
SECTION III: CONSEQUENCE STRUCTURE
First consequence: the easy section first creates a brief feeling of order. The project feels controlled. One part is good. The progress is documented in the clarity of the easy section.
Second consequence: the task is rescheduled into a future block that now carries even more expectations. The easy section being finished raises the standard. The difficult section is now adjacent to a finished part and will be compared to it.
Third consequence: eventually most of the work becomes maintaining the story that the real start is still about to happen. The story is maintained through continued refinement of the easy section.
SECTION IV: DURATION
Easy section first has no defined end date. The easy section may be polished indefinitely. There is always a better word. A shorter sentence. A cleaner structure.
The difficult section will be addressed when conditions improve.
SECTION V: CURRENT FINDINGS
The easy section is excellent. The difficult section has not been opened today. This has been the case for six days. The project continues to exist in a state of partial completion that is much cleaner than most projects.
