Preliminary Ruling on Freezer Ice Tray
A single ice cube remains in the tray as evidence that the person who used the last ice cube had somewhere to be.

Nature of the Object
The single ice cube is not useful for any standard ice-requiring application. It is too small for a drink. It is too alone in the tray to read as "there is ice available." It exists in the precise quantity that constitutes the threshold between emptying the tray and refilling it.
The person who returned the tray chose not to cross that threshold. They left the cube.
Governing Rule
Any freezer ice tray that survives three cleanups must be treated as permanent household infrastructure.
The single-cube tray has survived all cleanups for six weeks. At each cleanup, the decision is made to leave the tray because: (a) there is technically ice in it, and (b) refilling it is a two-minute task that nobody is doing right now.
Downstream Effects
Whoever finds the single cube and needs more than one ice cube must now address the situation. They face the original decision in its worst form: not "use the last ice" but "inherit the problem left by whoever used the second-to-last ice."
The decision requires either refilling the tray, which takes two minutes and is resented because it is not strictly their tray problem, or leaving the cube, which extends the situation by one more iteration.
Most household members refill the tray. None of them mention it.
