Procedure for Rain Delivery Guilt
Someone hesitates before ordering during heavy rain because convenience suddenly feels morally expensive.
Procedure for Rain Delivery Guilt
It is raining. Not lightly.
She opens the app. The usual restaurants are there. Estimated delivery: forty to fifty-five minutes. She closes the app.
She is hungry. She opens the app again.
The rain is visible through the window. A specific kind of rain: the kind that sheets sideways under streetlights, the kind that makes umbrellas a losing argument. She has been in rain like this. She has delivered things in less. She knows one person who still does this work and has not spoken to them in several months.
She closes the app.
Her partner calls from the other room to ask what they are doing about dinner. She says she is looking into it. This is true. She has been looking into it for twelve minutes.
Someone repeats rain delivery guilt to avoid one uncertain moment. The uncertain moment is the moment of ordering, which requires accepting that a specific person will travel in this rain in exchange for a specific fee that the platform calculates and she does not fully understand. She has tried to increase the tip. The app allows a range. She selects the top of the range. This does not resolve the weather.
A second person copies the behavior because the repetition looks like experience. Her partner appears, looks at the window, and says they should probably cook. She agrees. They evaluate what is available. Nothing requires a trip. They begin.
Private anxiety becomes procedure when more than one person starts coordinating around it. They have cooked on three rainy delivery nights this month. Neither of them has named the pattern. Both of them have registered it.
The group eventually treats the copied behavior as the safest available standard. Next rain, they will check the kitchen before the app. This will be called being organized. The app will still be checked, briefly, and closed.
The food is good. It takes longer than forty to fifty-five minutes.
