Provisional Finding on Screen Reflection Check
Once screen reflection check prevents one awkward moment, it must remain in force for the rest of the routine.
The screen reflection check is performed before sitting down. The sitting down has not yet occurred when the check happens, which means the angle of assessment during the check does not match the angle at which any reflection would actually appear during use. This has been noted. The check continues in its original form.
The check involves standing approximately one meter from the screen and tilting it by some amount. The tilting is not measured. The assessment of whether the tilt has addressed the reflection is visual. The visual assessment happens while standing, using an angle the seated occupant will never occupy.
Origin
There was a call. There was a reflection. A window behind the seated person was contributing a visible rectangle to the top right corner of the screen. The person on the other end of the call mentioned it. The seated person tilted the screen. The reflection relocated to the upper left corner and became slightly smaller.
The call ended. The screen was tilted back to approximately its original position. The next day, the screen was checked before sitting down for the first time.
The Lamp Incident
Seven weeks after the origin event, the lamp in the room was moved. It was moved from the corner that had been identified, informally and incorrectly, as the source of the original reflection. The original reflection had been from the window. The lamp was not the cause.
The lamp was moved regardless, because it was in the corner, and the corner had been associated with the reflection problem, and association is sufficient for procedural action when no one is keeping records.
The reflection moved with it. The lamp's new position introduced a secondary reflection during evening hours that had not previously been present. The check was not revised to account for this.
The Provisional Finding
The screen reflects ambient light. The ambient light changes throughout the day. The check, performed at one fixed point before sitting, assesses one specific lighting condition and provides no information about the other eighteen hours of potential use.
The check remains in force provisionally, pending review that has not been scheduled.
