Review of Persistent Doorway Shoe Cluster Activity

Q1

A shoe rack was purchased in Q1 of last year following a household agreement that shoes at the entrance constituted a navigational hazard. The shoe rack has three tiers. It can accommodate twelve pairs.

Current occupancy: two pairs, both of which belong to the person who purchased it, placed there on the day of purchase and not moved since.

Q2

The doorway shoe cluster originated in Q2. A pair of running shoes was left at the door after an evening run. This was described as temporary.

By the end of Q2, five pairs had joined the cluster. These were positioned in a rough semicircle approximately thirty centimeters from the door, in an arrangement nobody planned but which had clearly been refined over time into a stable configuration.

Under the governing rule, a doorway shoe cluster may not be removed until every resident agrees it has no hypothetical future use.

Q3

A conversation was held in Q3 about the shoe cluster. All parties agreed it should be moved. No specific party agreed to move it. The conversation concluded with the phrase "yeah, we should sort that out."

The shoe cluster was not moved. Adjacent objects were reorganized to accommodate it. A small tray was placed under one pair to prevent sole marks on the floor.

The shoe rack was examined during Q3. It remained at two pairs.

Q4

The shoe cluster's preferred orientation is now understood by all household members. Visiting guests are informed about the layout informally, usually in the context of "just put your shoes over there." Over there means the cluster.

The shoe rack was acquired specifically to prevent the doorway shoe cluster. The shoe rack is empty. The doorway shoe cluster now has its own preferred orientation.

A cleanup effort is planned for Q1 of this year. The proposed cleanup effort was also planned for Q1 of last year.

Current status: twelve pairs in the cluster. Zero pairs on the rack. The rack remains ready.
