Terms Governing Bed Socks Reversal
The socks were declared essential at 11:02 PM and became unbearable by 11:34 PM without any change in ambient temperature.
Article I: Initial Assessment
Upon preparing for sleep, the Subject shall assess ambient temperature and conclude that the feet are cold. This conclusion shall trigger the retrieval and application of bed socks. The retrieval may require leaving the bed, which is acknowledged as a cost the Subject is willing to accept in exchange for warm feet.
Article II: The Reversal Window
Bed socks, once applied, shall remain in their initial phase of comfort for a period between fifteen and forty-five minutes. During this period they are considered essential and their presence is not questioned.
Article III: Thermal Event
Following the Reversal Window, the Subject's feet shall become warm. The warming process, which was the explicit goal of the bed socks, shall render the bed socks incompatible with continued comfort. The Subject is now too warm.
Article IV: Removal Procedures
Removal shall be performed using only the feet, to preserve the fiction that the Subject remains approximately asleep. Socks shall be pushed to the end of the bed, where they shall remain until morning, having served their purpose and outlived their welcome within the same night.
Article V: Governing Rule
Minutes near sleep are exempt from normal arithmetic whenever bed socks reversal is involved. The Subject spent seven minutes retrieving socks, wore them for thirty-two minutes, and spent four minutes removing them with their feet in the dark. This was more efficient than not wearing socks.
Article VI: Renewal
These terms apply regardless of outside temperature. The Subject will reach this same conclusion again.
