Article I: Establishment of Territory

The extension cord originates at the wall socket near the window. It travels diagonally across 3.4 meters of floor to the desk. Along this route, it passes the doorway, the edge of the rug, and the area where the second person in the household typically stands when talking.

The cord has been in place for eleven months. The tape that was supposed to be "just for a few days" has left a permanent adhesive shadow.

Article II: Rights Conferred

The extension cord territory grants the cord the right to remain in its current location for as long as the alternative (moving the power socket, or rerouting the entire desk setup) requires more effort than stepping over it.

A extension cord territory may not be removed until every resident agrees it has no hypothetical future use. The cord powers the monitor, the lamp, and the charging dock. Its future use is the present.

Article III: Obligations of Household Members

All household members shall step over the extension cord at the designated crossing point, which is the area near the rug edge where the cord is lowest. The stepping motion has become automatic. Guests require orientation.

New residents receive informal instructions. The instructions are: "watch the cord near the door."

Article IV: The Extension Cord Is Not in the Way

The extension cord is not in the way. The extension cord is where everything goes around. These are the same thing, but the distinction matters to the person who placed the cord.

Eventually moving it requires consensus, historical evidence, and a reopening of the domestic constitution. The reopening has not been scheduled.

Article V: Duration

These terms remain effective until someone moves flats.
