Terms Governing Office Day Rescheduling
A personal appointment is moved to protect the one office day when a team actually overlaps in the same building.
Section 1. The office day is defined as the day on which physical presence at a designated workspace is expected, encouraged, or understood to occur. The definition varies by team and is not recorded in any document accessible to a new employee.
Section 2. Office Day Rescheduling refers to the act of moving a personal appointment to a different date in order to preserve the office day. The appointment being moved may be medical, social, domestic, or recreational. Its category is irrelevant to the rescheduling decision.
Section 3. The trigger condition is as follows: the team with which meaningful overlap occurs attends on a day that conflicts with a previously scheduled personal obligation. Under these terms, the personal obligation yields. The office day is protected.
Section 4. Office Day Rescheduling adds one coordination step to the day. Coworkers start planning around that step because the pattern becomes visible after two occurrences. By the third, it is treated as reliable.
Section 5. The day is called flexible while requiring extra location planning. Flexibility, as defined in the original hybrid policy, referred to the freedom to choose which days to attend. This freedom has been constrained not by policy revision but by the social cost of attending on a day when no one else does, which is a cost the policy declined to address.
Section 6. Under the governing rule, office day rescheduling becomes procedure once repetition feels safer than reconsidering it. The first rescheduling was a reasonable accommodation. By the sixth, it was unexamined policy.
Section 7. Flexibility hardens into an unwritten schedule, and the unwritten schedule is harder to renegotiate than the written one was. The written schedule had an HR process. The unwritten schedule has only the ambient pressure of team calendar visibility and the mild social consequence of being the person who broke the pattern.
Section 8. These terms are effective immediately and have no expiration date. No signature is required.
