Terms Governing Packing Too Late

These terms govern the arrangement between a traveler and a suitcase when packing begins less than eight hours before departure.

Article 1: The Scope

These terms apply when:

• The departure time is within eight hours.
• Packing has not been completed.
• Multiple appropriate packing windows have passed without utilization.
• The traveler is operating under conditions of fatigue.

Article 2: The Changed Conditions

Under normal packing conditions, each clothing decision is made with adequate time to consider alternatives. Under these terms, each decision must be made immediately. The question "should I bring the second pair of trousers" becomes "I am bringing the second pair of trousers because there is no time to evaluate this."

This produces different outcomes than planned packing. The outcomes are typically adequate.

Article 3: The Roleplays

During late-night packing, the traveler performs several calculations that are abbreviated by fatigue:

The weather check: done hastily, resulting in clothing that is correct for the average of the destination's weather rather than its specifics.

The "do I actually need this" assessment: bypassed. Item is included. Suitcase is heavier.

The outfit planning: skipped entirely. Five days of clothes are included. Matching is a problem for the destination.

Article 4: The Weight Problem

The suitcase, packed under these conditions, exceeds the weight it would have reached under planned conditions by approximately two kilograms. These two kilograms represent items included due to time pressure rather than genuine need.

The traveler knows this while packing. The traveler continues.

Article 5: The Obligation

The traveler accepts that packing at 11:30pm for a 7am flight is not optimal. The traveler also accepts that the flight leaves at 7am regardless. The suitcase must be finished. The terms hold.

Everything is in. The suitcase is closed. It is 12:47am.
