Terms Governing Plan Poll Avoidance
A group chat poll reaches consensus. One participant, who voted, declines to participate in the consensus.
Article I: The Poll
A poll was created in the group chat. The poll asked participants to select a preferred option from among several options. A deadline was set. Votes were cast.
The subject voted.
Article II: The Outcome
The poll closed. A winner was declared. Plans were made based on the winning option. Messages were sent confirming the plan. The subject acknowledged receipt of the confirmation messages by means of a reaction emoji.
Article III: The Deviation
At the appointed time, the subject did not follow the plan.
The plan that the subject had voted to create. The plan that the subject had confirmed receiving. The plan that had been organized specifically because participants, the subject among them, had been asked to select a preference and had done so.
Article IV: The Governing Rule
A group chat decision is not final until silence has been interpreted as consent.
The subject's vote expressed preference. The subject's acknowledgment expressed awareness. Neither constituted commitment in the subject's internal framework, which distinguishes between participating in a decision and being bound by it.
This distinction is not shared by the other participants. This does not prevent the subject from applying it.
Article V: The Aftermath
One participant sent a follow up message. The follow up message was worded so as not to directly name the problem. The subject responded with an explanation that was technically accurate.
A side conversation formed to interpret the main conversation. The side conversation lasted longer than the original planning process.
Article VI: Ongoing Terms
The poll mechanism remains in use. It will be used again. The subject will vote again. The outcome will again be treated as advisory. This is understood by all parties at some level. No party will formally acknowledge it, because acknowledgment would require a direct conversation that the group chat was created, in part, to avoid.
Article VII: Termination
These terms continue indefinitely, or until someone leaves the group chat in a way that requires a separate side conversation to address.
