Terms Governing Streak Loss Grief
The terms under which missing one puzzle day constitutes a small failure with disproportionate weight.
TERMS GOVERNING STREAK LOSS GRIEF Effective upon first consecutive streak. Binding until streak is retired or abandoned.
1. Definitions
"The Streak" means any consecutive sequence of completed daily puzzle attempts of five (5) or more days, tracked by the application's internal counter and displayed prominently on the results screen.
"Streak Loss Grief" means the emotional condition arising from voluntary or involuntary termination of The Streak, characterized by disproportionate disappointment relative to the stakes involved, which are none.
2. Applicability
These terms apply automatically. No acceptance is required because no acceptance was sought. Someone feels disproportionate disappointment after missing one day of a long puzzle streak. The game is called casual. These terms govern the condition that arises when casual games acquire the emotional weight of non-casual obligations.
3. The Core Contradiction
The game is called casual while missing it feels like a small failure. The word casual is the application's description. The word failure is the user's experience. These terms do not reconcile them. They record the gap.
4. Operational Consequences
Streak loss grief occupies one protected pocket of the day. Clause 4.1: that pocket expands to include the window before the streak expires, during which the puzzle must be completed. Clause 4.2: other routines start moving around that pocket. Clause 4.3: a tiny game becomes a daily obligation. Daily obligations are not casual by definition.
5. On Sympathy
The sympathy here is reluctant. The loss is not real. The streak was a number. Numbers can be reset. They can also be restarted. This knowledge does not meaningfully reduce the grief at the moment of loss, which is why the sympathy is offered despite its reluctance.
6. Renewal
A new streak begins the day after termination. The new streak is subject to these terms immediately. No grace period applies.
