Summary
A flat surface exists above the kitchen cupboards, between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling. This surface is approximately 28 centimeters deep and spans the full width of the kitchen. It is not visible from normal standing height. It has been in active use for an undetermined period.
Current inventory: one large wok with a broken handle, two cardboard boxes of unknown origin, a rattan basket acquired for an unremembered purpose, and a plastic bag containing what appears to be more plastic bags.
Timeline of Establishment
The initial placement was temporary. The wok handle broke; the wok was placed above the cupboard while a replacement handle was sought. No replacement handle was found. The wok remained.
The cardboard boxes were placed there during a period described as "just while we sort things out." Sorting has not occurred.
The rattan basket was placed there three months ago and has not been mentioned since.
Current Status
A small part of the room is quietly reassigned to support the cupboard top storage. Other routines begin routing around it. Newcomers receive informal instructions: "Don't worry about up there."
The items above the cupboard are technically reachable by standing on a chair. This fact does not make them accessible. Accessibility requires intention. Intention requires a reason. No reason has emerged.
Attempted Resolutions
One resident, during a kitchen clean in October, said, "We should probably sort out the top of the cupboards at some point." The other resident said, "Yeah." The subject was not raised again.
A cupboard top storage may not be removed until every resident agrees it has no hypothetical future use. The wok could theoretically be repaired. The boxes could theoretically contain something important. The basket could theoretically find a use.
The hypothetical use is sufficient. The objects remain.
Status
Provisionally approved until further notice. Eventually moving it requires consensus, historical evidence, and a reopening of the domestic constitution.
The constitution has not been reopened.
