Classification Notice: Delivery Refund Screenshot Current Status, Governing Conditions, and Applicable Precedents

On the Classification

The delivery refund screenshot is a digital photograph of a food order taken at the moment of receipt, before eating, in sufficient lighting and detail to document any item that arrived damaged, missing, or incorrect, and to support a refund request in the event that the order warrants one.

The delivery refund screenshot is taken regardless of whether the order warrants one.

Observation

Someone takes photos of a damaged order before eating because evidence must be secured first. The photos are taken. The order is normal. The photos are kept for three days and then deleted, or kept indefinitely in a folder where they join previous photos of orders that were also normal.

The service is supposed to remove meal work. The ordering, the tracking, the receipt photo, and the folder management are all meal work.

Consequence One

Someone repeats delivery refund screenshot to avoid one uncertain moment. The uncertain moment was: an item was missing once, the refund request was denied for insufficient evidence, and the resolution took four messages over two days. The photo was the lesson. Every order since has generated a photo.

Consequence Two

A second person copies the behavior because the repetition looks like experience. They see the photo being taken. They ask why. They are told. They begin taking photos of their own orders, on the grounds that one missed item and one denied refund are now part of the received wisdom about how delivery works.

Consequence Three

The group eventually treats the copied behavior as the safest available standard. Visitors who do not photograph their orders before eating are advised, gently, that they may want to document the state of the packaging.

The Governing Rule

Routine is considered proof even when nobody remembers the original reason. The original reason was one missing item in a period of high delivery volume when the household was eating almost every meal from an app because the restaurants were closed. That period has passed. The delivery refund screenshot has not.

The Contradiction

The delivery saves a trip. The photo documents the delivery. The documentation requires lighting, angle, and a moment of judgment about whether the photo clearly shows the seal is intact, which it always is, which means the photo is always sufficient and never necessary.

Classification: Active

No challenge to the current classification has been filed. The folder contains forty-seven photographs. Three of them show orders with a missing item. The missing items were resolved. The other forty-four photographs show complete, correct orders in various states of sealed packaging and, once, a bag that was slightly damp on the outside, which was documented but not submitted.
