The Exchange Verification Dread Exception
The price is the same as it was three hours ago. Checking was not going to change it.
FIELD NOTES Subject: Exchange Verification Dread Conditions: October 2022, Crypto Winter, Unverified
Observation, Entry 1
Someone delays logging into an exchange because another verification request might be waiting. The delay is not long. It is specifically the duration required to prepare for the possibility that the number is worse.
The number is usually worse.
Observation, Entry 2
The check cannot change the price, yet it changes the person's mood as if an action occurred. The price at 11 PM was the same as the price at 8 PM. The person's state at 11 PM was not the same as the state at 8 PM.
The difference was a number that did not move.
Observation, Entry 3
Uncertainty may be converted into certainty by checking the same number again under identical conditions. This is not how uncertainty works. It is how exchange verification dread works. These are not the same.
Once exchange verification dread affects a mood twice, checking or explaining it again becomes mandatory research. The research produces new data. The data is identical to the previous data with a slightly different timestamp.
Observed Pattern
The first case of exchange verification dread changed one small decision without being discussed. The decision was about when to check. After repetition, other people begin adjusting their behavior around exchange verification dread. Conversations about plans take place before the check, not after.
Eventually exchange verification dread acquires an unwritten enforcement system that everyone denies creating. Nobody is tracking this. It is nonetheless tracked.
Environmental Context
October 2022. The shift from crypto confidence to crypto winter was not announced. It was simply present in the number that did not recover.
Field Status
The dread is functioning normally. The exchange is operating. The verification request was not waiting.
It may be waiting next time.
