You are now maintaining a smile that has outlasted its original context by approximately ninety seconds. The smile is not attached to current events. The smile is operating on residual momentum from a moment that has passed.
Background
The colleague began speaking at 2:17 PM near the printer. The initial topic was a scheduling issue that resolved itself within the first forty seconds. The colleague then transitioned to an anecdote about the scheduling issue that required context, and the context required a separate story, and the separate story involved a third party who is not present.
You indicated engagement at regular intervals using the standard toolkit: nods, brief affirmative sounds, and the smile, which was appropriate at the time of deployment.
Consequence 1: The Expression Has Become Independent
