The Remote Is Within the Search Area

The remote was last used twenty minutes ago.

Its location since then is not confirmed. It is, based on all available evidence, somewhere in or near the sofa. The sofa has been checked. The remote has not been found. These two facts have not yet resolved themselves into a third fact, which is where it actually is.

Classification of the Search Area

Zone A: The main sofa surface. Checked twice. Remote not present at last verification, though the cushions have since been disturbed by the search itself, introducing new possible locations.

Zone B: Between the cushions. Three cushion-gaps have been explored by hand. The remote has not been located. One of the gaps produced a phone charger, a pen cap, and two hundred rupees, none of which were being looked for.

Zone C: Under the sofa. Briefly considered as a remote location but requires effort and is statistically unlikely given that the remote was in use on the sofa. Escalation to Zone C has been deferred.

Zone D: The person conducting the search. This is acknowledged as the most likely location. The person has confirmed, twice, that they are not sitting on the remote. The remote has not confirmed this.

The Notice

The remote has not left the sofa. The sofa has been checked twice. These facts are not yet reconciled.

The reconciliation will occur when the person conducting the search either stands up to check Zone D properly, or when the remote is found in Zone B during a third cushion check conducted with more systematic technique.

The Discovery

The remote was under the person conducting the search.

This was discovered during a reaching motion for something unrelated, which shifted weight and revealed the remote. The discovery was acknowledged briefly. The channel was changed. The remote was placed on the armrest, where it will remain for approximately four minutes before entering an indeterminate state again.

The Zone D confirmation procedure will be required again this evening.
