Annual Review of Center Review Reading
The practice of reading reviews of cultural centers before visiting them has persisted despite the absence of visits. This is the annual review.

Had the centers remained open, this review would not be necessary. The reviews would have been pre-visit research, used and discarded in the ordinary course of attendance. The habit would have remained proportionate to its function.
The centers did not remain continuously open. In their absence, the review reading habit persisted. This is the finding that requires annual documentation.
First counterfactual: had the review reader stopped reading reviews once visiting became impractical, the saved reviews would not have accumulated. The folder on the reader's device now contains forty-seven review excerpts, seventeen longer essays about institutions, and one incomplete thread arguing about whether a particular contemporary art center deserves its recent renovation. None of these were acted upon. All were filed.
Second counterfactual: had the reader acknowledged that reviews saved for hypothetical future visits represent a category of planning that requires a plan, a review protocol might have been established. Instead, saving continued. The folder continued to grow. The plan did not materialize.
Third counterfactual: had the reader not genuinely enjoyed reading about institutions, this behavior would have extinguished itself through boredom. It did not extinguish. The review habit outlasted the activity it reviewed, which suggests the habit was serving a purpose adjacent to the stated purpose.
The stated purpose was pre-visit research. The adjacent purpose appears to be the maintenance of a relationship with cultural life at a distance sufficient to feel connected without requiring proximity. This is documented without judgment.
The contradiction is standard: the behavior produces the outcome it substitutes for, which is the feeling of engagement, without producing engagement, which is why the behavior can continue indefinitely without the original trigger.
