Four reminders arrived for the same meeting. The meeting was attended. The reminders were not useful.

Background
The calendar currently issues reminders at the following intervals: thirty minutes before, fifteen minutes before, five minutes before, and at the time of the meeting. Each reminder is a separate notification. The meeting is a standing weekly call that has occurred forty-three times.
The reminders have never been modified.
Core Finding
Someone gets so many calendar reminders that the useful ones begin to feel like wallpaper. The wallpaper condition emerged sometime after the fifteenth meeting. It was not noticed at the time. It is noticed now in the context of four notifications for a meeting that was already on the screen.
The tool is supposed to save attention, yet using it creates another thing that demands attention. The notifications arrive. They are dismissed. The dismissal takes less time than changing the notification settings.
The Governing Rule
Any digital burden may remain permanent if dismissing it takes less effort than fixing its source. Changing the settings would require opening the calendar, locating the event, editing the reminder settings, and deciding which intervals are actually useful. This is currently scheduled for a free moment that has not arrived.
Consequence Sequence
The first case of meeting reminder overload changed one small decision without being discussed. The decision was about which notifications to read. After repetition, other people begin adjusting their behavior around meeting reminder overload. All calendar notifications are dismissed with the same speed.
Eventually meeting reminder overload acquires an unwritten enforcement system that everyone denies creating. The meeting is attended. The system continues.
