Section 1: Scope
These terms apply to any person who has received a new number announcement in a family communication group and has not yet saved the number. By continuing to be a member of the group, you agree to these terms.
Section 2: Definitions
"New Number Announcement" means any message in which a family member states they have changed their phone number and includes the new number for saving purposes. A follow-up message asking whether members saw the first message constitutes a Reminder under these terms.
Section 3: Obligations Upon Receipt
Someone gets a new phone number posted by a relative and saves it only after being reminded later. The reminder is the second message. The second message constitutes a formal obligation. The obligation did not begin at the first message because the first message was seen during a commute and the intention to save was formed but not executed.
Section 4: The Governing Rule
A family message gains authority from repetition even when nobody can identify its original source. Any repeated new number announcement becomes family duty once two relatives acknowledge it. Acknowledgment includes replying with a thumbs up emoji.
The message is easy to ignore, yet ignoring it can feel more socially expensive than reading it.
Section 5: Enforcement
After repetition, other people begin adjusting their behavior around new number announcement. Someone calls the old number. The number is unreachable. The caller remembers the announcement they did not save.
Eventually new number announcement acquires an unwritten enforcement system that everyone denies creating. The number was posted. The group saw it. The group agreed, implicitly, that saving it was the appropriate response.
