No conditions have changed. The device has not been touched. The toggle has not moved. The applicant understands this.
The applicant is checking anyway because the device already provides the needed information and they are adding a second layer because the stakes of being wrong in this specific location exceed the stakes of being wrong at a desk.
Section III: Governing Rule
Under the current rule, silent mode uncertainty remains mandatory while nobody volunteers to replace the habit. No candidate has volunteered. The habit is therefore operating within its authorized scope.
The first instance of silent mode uncertainty was treated as a personal preference and went unreviewed. A second person in the applicant's household began confirming silent mode twice before entering the same space, having observed the applicant's practice. This observation transformed the preference into shared procedure.
A newcomer to the household confirmed silent mode once before a family function and received a brief, unsolicited comment about thoroughness. The newcomer now confirms twice. The rule was never stated.
Section IV: Request
The applicant requests recognition that:
- One confirmation is insufficient and two are the standard.
- The standard was not designed but accreted.
- The device is reliable. The procedure is not about the device.
