APPLICATION FOR FORMAL RECOGNITION OF SECRET PROMPT TAB Submitted to the Office of Professional Conduct, January 2023

Section I: Nature of the Request

The applicant seeks formal recognition of a behavior currently classified as unofficial: the maintenance of an AI chat interface in a concealed browser tab while conducting visible professional work, and the incorporation of that interface's outputs into work product without acknowledgment.

The behavior is referred to herein as Secret Prompt Tab.

Section II: Description of Current Practice

The applicant opens a standard browser window containing approved work applications. A second tab, not visible in the main screen view, contains an AI chat session. Queries are submitted. Responses are received. The responses are adapted, paraphrased, or selectively incorporated into visible work product.

Colleagues observe the visible window. They observe the applicant working. They do not observe the secondary tab.

This is the complete description of the behavior.

Section III: Grounds for Recognition

The applicant notes three supporting conditions.

First, the behavior has been repeated without incident. The work has been completed. The quality has been acceptable.

Second, Secret Prompt Tab adds one private manual check to any task that previously required none. That check has now become part of the normal workflow. To remove it would require reconsidering practices that currently function.

Third, the help is useful enough to use and awkward enough to disguise. Both conditions are stable.

Section IV: Proposed Governing Rule

Under the proposed rule, Secret Prompt Tab becomes standard procedure once repetition feels safer than reconsidering it. The applicant believes this threshold has been crossed.

Section V: Anticipated Objection

The applicant acknowledges that disclosure is technically possible. The applicant further acknowledges that disclosure has not occurred and cannot currently be scheduled.

Assisted work becomes routine while disclosure stays exceptional. The applicant requests that the Office take note of which condition is currently expanding.

Section VI: Disposition Requested

Recognition of Secret Prompt Tab as established procedure, retroactive to first use. No announcement required. Continued operation under current conditions is the applicant's preference.

Submitted without signature, in keeping with the spirit of the application.
