Effective immediately, signal snack timing is hereby classified as a repeatable commute procedure and accorded all associated protections.
Under the governing rule, no one may correct signal snack timing unless they are willing to own the replacement procedure. No replacement procedure has been proposed. Signal snack timing therefore continues under its existing operational framework.
Background
People use long traffic signals as a predictable moment to drink water or adjust something they postponed while moving. The signal provides a known window of zero-to-ninety seconds. Within this window, routine comfort adjustments are performed: hydration, repositioning, the consumption of a snack held in the cupholder since departure.
The routine is meant to make a repeated journey predictable. Small deviations receive disproportionate attention.
Classification Rationale
Someone makes one minor adjustment for signal snack timing. The adjustment is the addition of the snack retrieval to the signal pause. This takes approximately four seconds and was not previously part of the signal behavior.
The adjustment becomes part of the expected sequence and adds time to every repeat. The snack is now retrieved from its location before the light turns green. This sequence has been performed on the same route for an estimated forty-seven commutes.
Eventually removing the adjustment requires a discussion longer than the behavior ever saved. The snack retrieval is not discussed. It has been classified. It is now part of the signal.
Terms of Classification
Classified behaviors retain their status until formally replaced. The behavior in question has not been replaced. Attempts to expedite the snack retrieval at shorter signals have not altered the classification. Behavior on longer signals where no snack exists has been noted separately and does not affect the present determination.
This classification is issued without expiry. Review may be requested by any party who also submits a written replacement procedure.
