TERMS AND CONDITIONS Governing the Cleaning of Camera Lenses and Associated Internal Components Applicable to All Consumer Camera Owners Who Have Read Approximately Fourteen Forum Posts

ARTICLE I: SCOPE

These terms apply to any person who has acquired a camera with interchangeable lenses, noticed dust in their photographs, and is now considering remediation. These terms do not apply to professional photographers, who have an established process. These terms apply specifically to the person who purchased the camera in 2021, has taken it out on eleven occasions, and has found a persistent spot in the upper left quadrant of every image taken since August.

ARTICLE II: THE LENS CLOTH

The lens cloth that came with the camera is, according to three separate forums, incorrect for this application. The lens cloth is for external glass surfaces. The forum posts draw a distinction between the external glass surface situation and the sensor situation that the person did not know existed prior to searching for the spot.

The sensor situation is different in character and consequence.

ARTICLE III: THE SENSOR

The sensor is inside the camera. Accessing the sensor requires removing the lens, which creates an interval during which the sensor is exposed to the environment. The environment contains particles. The current situation is that particles have already arrived. The cleaning process involves introducing a swab to the sensor.

The swab must be the correct swab. The correct swab is a specific item available in a kit that costs between twenty-two and sixty dollars depending on the vendor and the number of swabs included.

The sensor is the part of the camera the camera cannot protect from the person trying to protect the camera.

ARTICLE IV: THE DECISION

Two options are available. Option one is to purchase the kit, watch three videos, and attempt the cleaning. Option two is to pay a camera repair shop between forty and eighty dollars to perform the cleaning with professional indifference.

The forum posts contain testimonials for both options. The testimonials for option two note that option two costs money but the camera continues to function. The testimonials for option one note that the process is "not that hard" and that "if you're careful" the results are good. The phrase "if you're careful" carries unstated information about what happens otherwise.

ARTICLE V: CURRENT STATUS

The kit has been added to a browser cart. The kit has not been purchased. The camera is in use with the spot present. The spot is being cropped out in post-processing on an average of four images per outing.

These terms remain in effect until a decision is made or the camera is sold.
