Correspondence Regarding Generated Phrase Reuse

A phrase absorbed from an AI output and reused often enough to feel original has completed a cycle the writer did not track.

Dear ,

I am writing regarding the phrase "quietly reshaping expectations" which appeared in your report last week and which I recognized from a document I produced six weeks ago using an AI writing assistant. I am not accusing you of anything. I am noting that the phrase is now in circulation.

The path of the phrase, as best I can reconstruct it: I asked an assistant to help me draft a section on stakeholder communication. The assistant produced several sentences, one of which contained the phrase in question. I edited the surrounding text and left the phrase intact because it was accurate and well-placed. I submitted the document. You read the document. The phrase worked well enough that it entered your vocabulary. Last week it appeared in your report.

Generated phrase reuse adds one private manual check. For me, this check occurred when I read your report and recognized the phrase. The check was: did I write that originally, or did it come from the assistant? I checked my notes. It came from the assistant. The check resolved in approximately thirty seconds and had no further consequence.

That check becomes part of the normal workflow. What interests me is not the specific phrase but the structure of what happened. A piece of language moved from an AI system into a document, from a document into a reader's memory, and from memory into new writing, without any of these transitions being acknowledged at any point in the chain. The phrase is now ours. Neither of us designed that outcome.

The help is useful enough to use and awkward enough to disguise. You were not hiding the phrase. You had forgotten where it came from, which is how natural language absorption works. I was not hiding the original document. I had not flagged it as AI-assisted, which is what the disclosure gap of 2023 looked like from the inside.

Assisted work becomes routine while disclosure stays exceptional. Under the governing rule, generated phrase reuse becomes procedure once repetition feels safer than reconsidering it. The phrase will continue to circulate. This correspondence will not.

With regards.
