Correspondence Regarding Pushup Reality Check
After a long inactive stretch, the person conducted an unannounced fitness audit on the bedroom floor.
TO: The person who conducts surprise fitness audits on the bedroom floor
FROM: The governing rule
SUBJECT: Pushup Reality Check, Most Recent Occurrence
DATE: A Tuesday evening, approximately 9:40 PM
This correspondence acknowledges the most recent Pushup Reality Check and documents its findings for the record.
You had not exercised in eleven days. This was not a decision. It was a drift, occurring across a period in which tomorrow was consistently identified as the better day to start. Tomorrow accumulated into eleven days.
At 9:40 PM on Tuesday you lowered yourself to the floor without planning to and performed a series of pushups to determine current capacity. No warmup occurred. No plan existed. The audit was spontaneous and therefore diagnostic.
Pushup Reality Check creates a small burst of motivation or guilt. In your case: both, in sequence. The motivation arrived first, at the eighth repetition, when it appeared that capacity had been maintained. The guilt arrived at the fourteenth repetition, when capacity demonstrably had not been maintained.
The governing rule was followed: a fitness goal may be rescued by pushup reality check even when the underlying habit remains unchanged. The habit has not changed. The pushup count has been recorded. The record exists in your phone, in a note titled "actual fitness situation." This is the third entry in that note.
The feeling has been converted into a metric, a plan, and a purchase. The metric is fourteen pushups. The plan is a three-day-a-week schedule photographed from a website. The purchase is a gym membership reactivated at 9:58 PM, eighteen minutes after the audit concluded.
Eventually maintaining proof of being active competes directly with doing the activity. The proof is collected. The activity schedule begins Monday.
The governing rule notes: Monday was also the start date for the plan recorded on July 3rd.
Filed for the record. The floor audit is expected to recur in approximately eleven to fourteen days.
