Document Comment Loop Has Been Granted Temporary Authority

One resolved comment has produced four new comments, two of which question whether the original comment needed to be resolved.

TRANSCRIPT OF INFORMAL REVIEW PROCEEDINGS Document under review: Q1 Strategy Brief, version 4 Comment thread under review: Thread begun February 11, attached to paragraph 3, currently 14 comments in length

CHAIR: The original comment was posted on February 11. It read: "Should this say 'increase' or 'improve'?"

WITNESS: Correct. It was a minor word choice.

CHAIR: The word was changed.

WITNESS: It was changed to "improve." The comment was marked resolved.

CHAIR: Two hours later, a clarifying comment was posted asking whether "improve" was intended to mean "increase in quantity" or "increase in quality," since both were possible readings.

WITNESS: We wanted to be precise.

CHAIR: The resolution of that comment generated a comment asking whether the distinction mattered for the Q1 objectives.

WITNESS: It might matter for how we report in Q2.

CHAIR: That comment was addressed with a comment suggesting a call.

WITNESS: The call was scheduled.

Under the governing rule, a document comment loop may expand beyond its purpose if expansion can still be described as alignment.

CHAIR: The call was later replaced with an additional comment asking whether the call was still necessary given that a new comment had been added while the call was being scheduled.

WITNESS: We wanted to reduce meeting overhead.

CHAIR: The comment thread is now longer than the section it refers to.

WITNESS: We felt the feedback warranted thorough documentation.

CHAIR: The document's paragraph 3 contains 40 words. The comment thread contains 287 words. The paragraph still says "improve."

WITNESS: It might need to be "enhance" now, actually.

CHAIR: That is a new comment.

WITNESS: I'm aware.

CHAIR: The committee finds that the document comment loop has exceeded its original mandate and now represents the primary activity associated with this section of the document. No further action is recommended because any action would generate additional comments. Proceedings concluded.

The original question was never answered.
