Provisional Order on Posture Correction Burst
The subject has sat perfectly upright for a total of forty seconds across an eight-hour workday.
WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF POSTURE CORRECTION HAD NEVER BEEN INTRODUCED AS A CONCEPT
The subject would be sitting the way they are sitting now, in a slight forward lean with shoulders at a gentle inward slope, and they would not know it was wrong.
This state would be uninterrupted. There would be no sudden awareness. No lightning correction. No brief period of sitting upright followed by gradual re-collapse. The spine would simply be in its default configuration, and the default configuration would be the only one the subject knew to maintain.
This did not happen. A physiotherapist mentioned it in 2019.
Under the governing rule, if posture correction burst can be fixed later, later retains jurisdiction until the last practical minute.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
Approximately every forty minutes, awareness arrives. The mechanism varies: sometimes a shoulder ache, sometimes a glance at someone else sitting well, sometimes a notification from an app that sends posture reminders that were set up eighteen months ago and are now ignored except on the occasions when they land at a moment of existing discomfort.
The correction is performed. The subject straightens. The shoulders move back. The chin is drawn in. The lower back is supported by the chair's lumbar function, which it is always doing, but now the subject is cooperating with it.
The correction lasts between three and twelve seconds before the spine resumes its preferred configuration, which is the posture the correction was correcting.
THE MONITORING PHASE
The correction is now performed more times per day than any other discretionary physical act. It takes less than one second to complete and is forgotten within fifteen seconds of completion. The monitoring of whether the correction is needed takes longer than the correction itself.
The subject has sat perfectly upright for a total of forty seconds across an eight-hour workday. The posture correction app has sent three reminders. Two were dismissed without changing the sitting position. One was dismissed while already upright, which felt like a victory.
The spine has its own position. It returns to it. Every hour this is discovered again.
