Week 1, Day 3

First drilling noted at 10:17 AM. Duration: approximately four minutes. Source: above. Type: rotary, medium intensity, consistent with tile work or anchoring into concrete. The observer did not intend to note this. The observer noted it.

Week 2, Day 1

Drilling began at 10:12 AM. The observer noted the time before becoming aware of noting it.

Week 2, Day 4

Drilling at 10:09 AM. An anomaly: it stopped at 10:14 AM instead of 10:21 AM. The observer noticed the early stop. This was not information the observer had planned to have.

Week 3, Summary

The governing rule: once neighbor drilling schedule is consciously noticed, it may demand attention on every repeat. The pattern is now conscious. Drilling before 10 AM registers as early. Drilling after 11 AM registers as late. Both register.

Week 4, Day 2

No drilling. The absence was noticed at 10:23 AM. The observer checked a notification, found nothing, and continued working with the awareness that the drilling had not started.

Week 5

The observer can now predict drilling within a seven-minute window. This knowledge was not pursued. It accumulated. Nothing about the drilling changed. Attention changed.

The observer has a working model of what is being constructed based solely on the sound evolution: tile work is complete (the pitch changed), the current phase appears to be plumbing or bracket work, the project is probably in its final stage.

Week 6

The drilling ended today. The observer noted its absence at 10:11 AM. The renovation is presumably complete. The person who knows the drilling schedule better than the renovation plan never intended to learn it.

The apartment above is quiet.

The quiet is now the thing being tracked.
