Observations from the field on the encounter with screenshots whose original purpose cannot be reconstructed.
11:14 Subject opens camera roll in search of a recent photograph. Navigation passes through a screenshot. The screenshot is not recent. It depicts a confirmation number, a map pin, a price comparison, or a block of text with no visible context. The subject pauses.
11:15 The pause is the event. Old screenshot discovery has initiated.
Subject cannot remember what future problem the screenshot was supposed to solve. The problem either resolved without the screenshot, resolved with it and was then forgotten, or was never a problem but was treated as one at the moment of capture.
11:17 Three possible dispositions exist: delete, retain, or continue scrolling past. The subject chooses the third option. This is the most common outcome. Deletion would require confidence about the screenshot's current irrelevance. Confidence is not available.
