Findings on the Continued Use of Power Cut Device Audit

Within ninety seconds of power returning, four household devices had been individually located and assessed for remaining battery.

Tuesday, 7:43 PM. Power restored after an outage of approximately eleven minutes. Lights returned in sequence: corridor, kitchen, study. The fan resumed at prior speed without adjustment.

7:43:20 PM. First device located: laptop. Checked for battery. 67%. Noted. The laptop had been on battery during the outage but had not been actively used. The check was performed anyway.

7:43:35 PM. Second device located: phone. Already charged. 84%. No change from pre-outage reading. Check confirmed.

7:43:52 PM. Third device located: portable speaker. Found on the windowsill. Battery light: blue, indicating above 30%. Relevance to the outage: unclear.

7:44:10 PM. Inquiry into fourth device: the power bank. Location: bag pocket. Retrieved. Power button pressed. All four indicator lights illuminated. This was described as good news.

Under the governing rule, a local workaround may outrank the formal process when everyone already knows the workaround.

Observation. The audit takes place before anyone has determined whether the power cut will happen again, which is the only condition under which the audit would matter. The official path, which would involve checking the electricity board's outage notification service, was not consulted. The unofficial path, which involves personally verifying all battery levels within ninety seconds of power return, was completed efficiently.

7:45 PM. A neighbor appeared in the doorway to mention that the outage had been area-wide and was now resolved. This information was received after the audit had already concluded.

7:45:20 PM. The laptop was plugged in "just in case."

7:46 PM. The study light, which had never turned off, was turned off and turned back on, apparently to verify that it was working.

The workaround developed its timing rules and exceptions through repetition. By this evening it ran in under three minutes without instruction.

City protocol. Improvised from necessity. Now faster than the official version.
