Contributing Factors
The first instance of location pin dependence is treated as a personal preference. In this case, the requesting party has asked for a location pin for this same venue on at least two prior occasions. Both times, the pin was provided without comment. The providing party has not questioned the request.
A second person begins adapting to it, which makes the preference look like shared procedure. On the occasion documented here, two additional parties who did not request the pin engaged with it as though they had been waiting for it. Both parties know the venue.
Everyone can see the same messages. People still manage context as if access to the thread were unequal.
Findings
The location pin serves a function that is not navigation. It serves as a confirmation that the plan is real and the thread is operational. The pin is the plan becoming concrete.
Under the governing rule, location pin dependence remains mandatory while nobody volunteers to replace the habit. No one has proposed an alternative confirmation mechanism. The pin will be requested at future gatherings.
Eventually a newcomer can violate the rule without ever having been told the rule exists. The newcomer is anyone who arrives at the named venue without checking the pin. They will arrive at the correct location. They will not understand why the pin was necessary.
