Process Documentation
At some point in the setup of the current medication protocol, a dose reminder was configured. The reminder was useful at the time of configuration. The configuration has since outlived the circumstances that made it useful, because the dose is now taken automatically as part of a fixed morning routine that does not require external prompting.
The reminder is not wrong. It is asynchronous. There is a difference, and it matters less than one would hope.
Escalation Pattern
In 63% of observed instances, the reminder arrives after the dose has been taken. In 24% of observed instances, the reminder arrives during or immediately following the act of taking the dose, which produces a brief moment of administrative irony. In the remaining 13% of instances, the reminder arrives before the dose is taken, which is when it is useful, which is when it was designed to arrive, which is increasingly the minority case.
Structural Contradiction
The system that sent the reminder has no mechanism for knowing whether the dose was taken. This is not a gap in the system. It is the architecture of the system. The system is designed to remind, not to verify. The reminder is the system's entire output.
This means the reminder cannot become less frequent as adherence increases. The reminder does not improve with use. A reminder system for a person with perfect adherence delivers the same volume of reminders as a reminder system for a person with poor adherence, because the system has no way to distinguish between the two.
Absurd Finding
To stop receiving the reminders, the user must navigate to the settings of the application, locate the notification section, find the specific reminder category, and disable it. This process takes between two and six minutes, depending on the application's settings architecture. The user has not done this. The user does not plan to do this. The reminder continues.
Recommendation
No revision recommended. The dose is being taken. The reminder is being ignored. The system is working, in the sense that the system is doing what the system does.
