What Actually Happens

They check the other side. They return to the first. The difference they found in round two is smaller than the difference they found in round one. This is consistent with no meaningful difference existing. But it is also consistent with a systematic error in the measurement. They cannot rule out the second explanation.
A third check. The body gave clear feedback after the second. They did not act on it. They were waiting for the feedback to become inconvenient.
Why This Is Not Irrational
