Notice of Continued Handover Document Timing Operations

This correspondence is to confirm that the handover document is being written now. The handover itself is also happening now. These two events are concurrent and are experiencing some difficulty coexisting.

The governing rule: any handover document timing visible to colleagues may count as progress until someone asks for the underlying work.

The handover document began at approximately the moment it ceased to be useful. Prior to that moment, there was time to write it. Prior to that moment, writing it felt less urgent. The urgency arrived with the handover.

The document exists to transfer knowledge. It is being written by someone who is, at this exact moment, transferring that knowledge in conversation. The conversation is faster, more accurate, and directly responsive to questions. The document is capturing approximately forty percent of the conversation, reorganized into headers.

The headers include: Overview, Key Contacts, Known Issues, and Things That Are Hard to Explain in a Document.

The last section is longest.

Several items in the document reference systems whose passwords are stored somewhere the author will locate shortly. Several items describe processes that are standard but have one exception known only to the author. The exception is noted as existing. The exception itself is not yet documented.

The document will be sent at end of day. End of day is in forty minutes.

A second coordination step has appeared. The recipient has requested a call to walk through the document that is explaining the system the call is already walking through.

The organization eventually needs a meeting to decide whether the ritual itself should continue.
