The naming process has consumed more time than the first edition, which remains unwritten.
Annual Review: Newsletter First Issue Performance Period Under Examination
Section 1: The Decision
Someone decided to start a newsletter. This was a reasonable decision. Several newsletters have become meaningful things. The idea was noted in a document alongside other ideas.
At some point the idea was separated from the other ideas and moved into a folder labeled Active.
This was the last unambiguous forward motion.
Section 2: The Naming Phase
A name was needed before an audience could be reached, before an audience could be reached before the writing could be justified at scale, and scale was the entire point. The naming process therefore carried structural priority.
Seventeen candidate names were recorded in the document. Five were crossed out because another newsletter already used them. Three were crossed out because they sounded like something else. Two were crossed out because they would be difficult to explain verbally at a party, which was considered a reasonable eliminator even though no party had been attended in several months.
One name remained. It required a logo.
Section 3: The Infrastructure Phase
A platform was selected, then reconsidered, then reselected. The rationale for reconsidering involved deliverability statistics published by a third-party comparison site whose own newsletter had been started and not continued.
A welcome email was drafted. The welcome email assumed subscribers. There were no subscribers. The welcome email was revised.
Section 4: The Review Period
The first issue has not been written.
The domain name has been purchased. The import settings have been configured. The about page contains one paragraph describing the newsletter's purpose, which is to cover things the newsletter will cover once it begins.
The project is supposed to create freedom. It has created a recurring task list.
Observation
The subject can explain with confidence what the newsletter will be about. The explanation takes approximately four minutes. The newsletter does not yet contain four minutes of reading.
This represents a gap the subject has identified and intends to address in the coming weeks, following some outstanding setup tasks whose completion will allow the writing to begin in earnest.
The setup tasks are well organized.
